Since then, Sara has churned out singles like “King Of Anything” and “Brave,” both empowering anthems. Ten years ago, Sara released her first major label album, Little Voice, and its lead single, “Love Song,” became the kind of hit musicians dream about. Sorry that it’s going to happen to you too, now. This year is a special anniversary for Sara Bareilles. One last thought about this song: For some reason, one day I started singing “I want to see your big brain” as alternate lyrics to this song, and now whenever I hear it, I can’t help but think of those words. I personally believe Katy Perry did indeed rip-off parts of Brave in order to create her own hit (she’s done it on other occasions as well), but ultimately it ended up getting Brave out to a wider audience, and both songs are well-worth listening to. There was some controversy concerning Katy Perry’s Roar, which came out several months after Brave and has a list of similarities, including the nearly identical piano-shot intros, the chord progressions, and the empowering messages of each.

The opposite effect (where everything appears sped-up) is also cool to see, like in this video by Kye Kye. It’s a fairly simple technique – during the filming process you speed up the song and record yourself singing it at this faster pace, then you slow down the entire video to match the original speed of the song. I also really like the filming technique where it looks like things are moving in slow motion (you can see this used around 1:43, and in a couple other parts of the video). It’s great to see the genuine reactions from the onlookers. The video even ends with some thoughts from onlookers while filming, which confirms to me that this was a gorilla-style shoot. I like seeing some people shy away, while others are drawn into the dance and the joy themselves. I love seeing the reactions of the people around the dancers. It takes bravery to dance in pubic, and this video is demonstrating the theme of the song in every frame. They purposely didn’t get pretty, athletic, modelesque dancers to create a flashy video – they got average looking people of different ages and ethnicities to show that this is a song and a message for everyone. I love how it was filmed almost like “found footage” of people dancing in different public places. It’s a song that I can listen to with my kids and feel good about it.īut this video makes the song so much better. The song by itself is great – it’s got a catchy tune, a great beat, it’s easy to dance to, and the message is positive and uplifting. They fit each other so well.įirst of all, like most people, I first heard this song on the radio and then looked it up on YouTube. I think this is a perfect combination of video and song.
